Depression in Employees of a Private Company: Prevalence and Considerations for Mental Health
Main Article Content
Abstract
Depression is one of the main mental health problems in the contemporary workplace due to its impact on psychological well-being and occupational performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence of depressive symptoms and their distribution by sex among employees of a private company in Quito in 2025. The methodology followed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional, non-experimental, and descriptive design. The sample consisted of 50 employees selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The Beck Depression Inventory–Second Edition (BDI-II) was used to assess depressive symptomatology. The results showed that 40.0% of participants had high levels of depression, while 30.0% had moderate levels and 30.0% low levels, with no significant differences by sex. The discussion suggests that these findings may be associated with psychosocial risk factors in the workplace, such as workload and organizational pressure. It is concluded that there is a significant presence of depressive symptoms, highlighting the need to implement prevention, early detection, and psychological intervention strategies in organizational settings.
