Challenges of adoption in the face of external digital platforms at the library of the Technical State University of Quevedo

Abstract
The virtual library of the Quevedo State Technical University faces low usage rates among students, despite offering a free institutional repository. The study aimed to analyze the factors that motivate students to prefer external digital platforms such as Google Scholar or artificial intelligence-based tools. A mixed methodology was used, combining student surveys, interviews with institutional staff, and document analysis. The results show that students consider external digital platforms to offer a faster, more intuitive, and visually friendly experience, which influences their decision to use them. The discussion highlights that, although they recognize the academic value of the institutional library, it is perceived as impractical compared to more dynamic digital alternatives. It concludes that it is necessary to redesign the institutional library's technology adoption strategy to improve its usability and adapt to new information search dynamics.
