Abstract

The private healthcare sector faces several challenges that limit its growth and competitiveness. Among the main problems are the lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient technological resources, and limited staff training. These shortcomings make it difficult for clinics, doctors' offices, and rehabilitation centers to offer quality services and remain competitive in an increasingly demanding market. In addition, many institutions lack clear and systematic strategies to ensure quality and manage environmental impact, which affects their sustainability and reputation. Despite these obstacles, the sector shows steady progress and plays an important role in boosting the local economy. This study sought to understand how productivity and competitiveness can drive the economic development of the private health sector in Rumiñahui. Based on surveys of 30 companies, it was found that those that are committed to productivity tend to overcome these challenges and improve their competitiveness. In summary, although there are significant problems, there is great potential for the private healthcare sector to grow and strengthen through innovation and continuous improvement, which can benefit both companies and the local community.
