Abstract

In the context of nursing education, ensuring the effective acquisition of clinical skills represents a constant challenge, especially in the face of the limitations of traditional teaching methods. This study adopts an exploratory literature review approach to critically analyze the use of virtual reality (VR) as a didactic tool in the clinical education of nursing students. The search for information was conducted in high-impact academic databases, with rigorous inclusion criteria that allowed the selection of research published between 2015 and 2024. The results evidence that VR offers immersive and safe environments that favor experiential learning, procedure repetition and clinical decision making, thus improving academic performance and professional confidence. However, significant barriers to its implementation are identified, such as poor technological infrastructure, high associated costs and limited faculty training. In addition, there is a lack of institutional policies to support its curricular integration. It is concluded that, although VR has a high transforming potential in clinical education, its effective adoption requires strategic planning that includes technological investment, pedagogical updating and institutional commitment.
