Influence of health education on treatment adherence in HIV patients
Main Article Content
Abstract
This literature review analyzes the influence of health education on adherence to antiretroviral treatment in people living with HIV, recognizing its importance for therapeutic success, viral suppression and reduction of morbidity and mortality. An exploratory study was conducted with a qualitative approach, based on the selection and critical analysis of scientific literature published between 2015 and 2024 in databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. The results show that structured, culturally relevant and sustained educational interventions significantly improve adherence, especially when they include personalized strategies, mobile technologies, emotional support and community participation. Contextual factors such as sociocultural environment and social support were identified as directly influencing the effectiveness of these interventions, being essential to overcome stigma, misinformation and structural barriers. The discussion highlights the need to adopt holistic, differential and intersectoral approaches that integrate cultural elements, support networks and active participation of patients. In conclusion, health education should be understood as an empowerment tool that, beyond transmitting knowledge, transforms realities, strengthens therapeutic adherence and promotes health equity.
