The relationship between ergonomic conditions, well-being at work and productivity among workers in the business sector

Abstract

Ergonomics constitutes a strategic component of human resource management because it allows working conditions to be adapted to the physical, cognitive, and organizational capacities of employees, promoting their well-being and performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between ergonomic conditions, workplace well-being, and productivity among employees of TABAPAEZ, located in Quevedo, Ecuador. The research followed a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design, applied to a census sample of 44 employees. Data were collected through a structured Likert-scale questionnaire, complemented by interviews and direct observation. The results showed that the implementation of ergonomic principles is at a medium-low level, with basic practices predominating and limited integration into comprehensive management processes. Likewise, ergonomic conditions were found to have a positive influence on employee well-being, although this effect was not uniform among all workers. A moderate positive correlation was identified between ergonomics and workplace well-being, as well as between ergonomics and productivity. In conclusion, strengthening ergonomic management can improve employee well-being and organizational performance.
